Local > Carr's raises eyebrows with a Warhol window ...
MULTI-COLOURED images of Carr's new bags of premium self-raising flour are catching the eyes of thousands of shoppers, car drivers and bus passengers in Carlisle city centre.
The pop art tribute to Andy Warhol - in the windows of former city jeweller Arthur Carr on English Street - was installed to launch the city’s annual summer arts festival.
“I immediately thought of paying tribute to Andy Warhol’s iconic paintings of soup cans when we were asked to get involved,” explained Caroline Dale, marketing manager of Carrs Breadmaker.
“The bags look absolutely fantastic and lots of shoppers stopped to ask me what was going on when the images were being sealed onto the inside of the windows.”
Caroline chose the shop of former city jeweller Arthur Carr because of the name.
“I am not aware of any direct link to the family of Jonathan Dodgson Carr who founded our flour company but it seemed particularly appropriate,” she said.
The shop has been empty since it closed last year.During the festival Cumbrian artists are decorating the windows of empty shops throughout the city centre.
“I am now incorporating the Warhol window into my marketing and PR campaign for the new self-raising flour,” added Caroline.
Carr's is launching its new self-raising flour in Tesco in September.
